Jerry & Julie: Forty-One To Forever

Day 38

Dad and Mom on their wedding day, July 11th 1969.
What a cute, happy couple!

Today is my parents’ 41st wedding anniversary(!) - they were married on July 11th 1969. In a time when so many marriages end in divorce (often tragically, but also often out of necessity) I am in awe and wonderment at my parents and their commitment to each other, to the sacred covenant of marriage.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my parents!
(Even with the outdated clothes/hairstyles!)

My parents have done a wonderful job of conveying all aspects of marriage to me and my siblings, showing us the joy, the hardship, the blessings, the consequences, the pluses and the minuses. While neither of them are perfect or profess to be perfect, both of them are open to counsel from others and more importantly counsel from each other.

My parents were married in the Logan Temple, where they were sealed together for time and all eternity; so 41 years together is really just a fraction of the time they will be together (a comforting--or intimidating--thought, depending on you look at it). This is no ordinary commitment, no “Hollywood-type-marriage-wannabe“; this is the real deal, the ultimate in making a commitment, not just with one another but with Heavenly Father.

Last year I made a scrapbook to commemorate my parents’ 40th anniversary (which is called the “Ruby” anniversary) and as I collected, arranged and pasted the pictures of my parents, pictures from over the course of their four decades together, I found myself admiring this couple, seeing how handsome my father is, how beautiful my mother is, and how they make a fetching, complimentary couple.

I’m so grateful for my father and mother, for bringing me into this world, for bringing me up and teaching me, molding me and instilling in me their faith and values. Happy Anniversary to Jerry and Julie Case, to Dad and Mom! From now until Forever!
