“What Are You Doin’ New Year’s Eve?”

Day 211

Countdown to 2011 - it’s hard to believe that we’re almost done with 2010! This was quite the eventful year - these are some of the highlights: my beautiful niece Myra was born in June; my parents celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary; my brother Josh and his family moved into an attractive new home; my sister Jaimee and her family also moved into an attractive new home; and I went from being unemployed to starting one new job (which totally sucked!) to returning to my former employer Progressive (which totally rocked!)

And now it’s New Year’s Eve! It used to be a tradition that my entire family would gather together and ring in the new year with confetti and silly string! It was always a fun, but messy way to celebrate!

Another tradition involves having at toast (with sparkling cider) at midnight. And then there is our traditional New Year’s Eve movie - The Apartment (1960).

This film earned 5 Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and stars Jack Lemmon as a man who lends out the key to his apartment to various executives (for their extra-marital activities) in the hopes of advancing his career. He is in love with a beautiful elevator operator at his work (played by Shirley MacLaine) but doesn’t know that she is currently involved with his boss, a philandering jerk (played by Fred MacMurray). This is a brilliant comedy with a perfect blend of some serious dramatic moments; and the performances are first-rate.

Anyway, the reason my family watches this movie on New Year’s Eve is because A) it is an awesome movie and B) the movie takes place during the holidays and concludes on New Year’s Eve.

Well, however you choose to celebrate this
New Year's Eve
I hope everyone has a
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! And BEST WISHES for 2011!!
