Day 157
Today is my nephew Ben’s 9th birthday - Happy Birthday!! It’s so cool that his birthday is just 2 days after my dad’s birthday; it’s kind of nice to have the birthday spirit around my family for more than just one day.
Anyway, I’d like to share some more excerpts from my journal, from the entry in my journal on the day of Benjamin’s birth [Volume 28]:
Wednesday November 7th 2001,
10:14 pm - There is a new addition to the Josh and Karen Case family, as this new generation continues to expand. Make way for the new breed, for the posterity that could possibly lead us to the Millennium. I had heard somewhere that those living today were foreordained to be here on earth during this dispensation because they were some of the strongest inhabitants in the preexistence. And each generation brings about stronger individuals. Today at 9:47 am one such person was brought forth into this world…
…Karen was hospitalized last night and around 7 this morning she was given the medicine for essentially kick-starting her labor, and apparently it went to work almost immediately, because in just 3 hours Karen had given birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy who weighed in at 6 pounds 6 ounces; and oddly enough he is now staying in Room 6606 - all these sixes could make a superstitious person nervous…
…Josh and Karen’s new son is named Benjamin, as expected, but just today the decision was made not to use Justin as a middle name. Everyone was kept in suspense over what his middle name was, up until tonight. We were all bursting with guesses and speculations, with only a few clues to work from: the middle name started with the letter ‘J’ and had six letters…
…The highlight of my day came around 11, when Jaimee called, and almost immediately I suspected that she was calling about Benjamin. Then Jaimee handed the phone over to Karen and she was able to tell me in her own words about becoming a mother again. I was so impressed at how calm, how fine she sounded. Karen is amazing! My sister-in-law is amazing…
…At the end of the work day I was all excited about seeing Benjamin. The plan was for everyone to go together to the hospital. Karen already had quite a few visitors - most of her family was there, but her dad wasn’t there because he had surgery this morning. Karen’s mom gave us an update on him - the surgery went well and he was recovering just fine…
…We all began making guesses about Benjamin’s middle name. Guesses ranged from the realistic to the ridiculous. Josh and Karen clarified what was the correct name. The mystery was solved when the parents explained that the name was one that they had invented as a tribute to Benjamin’s two grandfathers, Jerry and Don. Josh and Karen’s new son is named Benjamin JERDON Case. Very clever, distinctive, original…
…I was able to hold my nephew for awhile, and unlike my experience with newborn Joshua, I wasn’t as nervous or worried about holding a baby, which just goes to show how I’ve already been trained to some degree.
